Starlee Speers - Vernon 10-5.7 SUNFM:
We could know who will fill the top job at Vernon's RCMP detachment by next month. Inspector Reg Burgess, who's been filling in since June, says he's made the shortlist of five candidates for the superintendent's position. Fourteen people applied for the position which was posted nationally. The position was left vacant by Superintendant Steve McVarnock who left Vernon for a job in Nunavet.
Burgess says the candidates will be interviewed by a panel of senior RCMP officials and city officials in mid October. He adds, there was a lot of interest in the position as Vernon is a desirable place to work.
