A police standoff in Vernon came to a peaceful end. Mounties surrounded a duplex on 27th Street near Seaton School just after 11 am, where a 38 year old man who was thought to have access to guns, refused to come out. After several phone conversations with police, the suspect gave himself up without incident about 90 minutes later. RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk says a disagreement with family members caused the man to become distraught.

"The family members left and called the police. It appears he was very distraught. We were able to talk him out of the residence. No one was injured. He came out peacefully. "The man is being checked over by mental health experts. Molendyk says charges could be laid depending on what the medical staff say.The incident led to two blocks of 27th Street being shut down for public safety reasons."We have to shut it down on precaution. Anytime your dealing with the possibility of firearms, public safety becomes paramount."At the time he spoke with KISS FM, Molendyk wasn't sure if a gun was located at the scene, as officers were just going into the home to secure it.
