Centre To Hire New Manager; HST Impact

perf_arts_centre
The HST could lead to fewer patrons in the seats at entertainment facilities like the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre. Outgoing managing director Michael Cade says the new tax will mean an additional seven percent on ticket sales. "Which in this case will mean the operation of the theatre will be paying somewhere between $70,000 to $100,000 in new taxes to the provincial government. That's money that's going to have to be made up somehow, probably through increased ticket prices."

Meantime, Cade says applications closed on Friday to fill his position, and says the new manager should be in place by January. "Based on the field of applications that have come in, they're going to be able to get someone far more exciting and thrilling than me in this place. I'm truly in awe of some of the applicants."Cade says Pamela Burns-Resch will be the interim managing director until the new hire is completed. After eight years in Vernon, Cade is off to the Fraser Valley to become the manager of Chilliwack's new cultural centre.

How much extra cash is the Provincial Government going to rake in by charging HST on gas? When I buy gas now I get a receipt that tells me how much GST I paid out of the total. If HST goes on the same as GST, what happens to current Provincial road taxes? Do they go down or does the HST just go on top. Some big bucks there if it does.
