Vernon's Chris Baryla moved a big step closer to realizing his PGA Tour dream Sunday by winning the Nationwide Tour's Chattanooga Classic in Tennessee. The two-time B.C. Junior champion shot a two-under 70 Sunday to finish at 19-under par, one shot ahead of American Troy Kelly. The win, Baryla's first on the Nationwide Tour, was worth $90,000 US and moved the 26-year-old into 20th place on the Nationwide Tour money list with earnings of $184,055. The top 25 players at season's end earn their 2010 PGA Tour cards. There are only two events remaining on the Nationwide Tour schedule, the Miccosukee Championship this coming week in Miami and the season-ending Nationwide Tour Championship the following week in Charleston, S.C.

Baryla began Sunday's final round with a two-shot lead and had to weather a tough start. He bogeyed the first two holes to fall into a tie for the lead, but then made three straight birdies starting on the fifth hole to regain the lead. He stumbled again early on the back nine, when he double-bogeyed the 12th hole, but again responded with three straight birdies on holes 14, 15 and 16. Baryla had a two-shot lead on the final tee but bogeyed the 18th hole to win by one.Sunday's win capped a remarkable comeback of sorts for Baryla, who didn't make his first start of the year until May after recovering from a back injury that sidelined him for nearly a year.
