Several non profit groups have been given grants from the city of Vernon ---- while one other will have to wait. Mayor Wayne Lippert says the Vernon Winter Carnival Society will get 20-thousand dollars."It's a one time grant because it's their 50th year so its a celebration that should be recognized."Fifteen thousand dollars will go to the Kalamalka Highlanders for a new youth program (band uniforms, two new drums and rental of Rec Complex for practices), and $22,000 will be used for a Community Garden Network implementation project to assist in creating a public system of the gardens in Greater Vernon. The Finance Committee's recommendation to provide a $30,000 grant to the Teen Junction was deferred until December to see if the program will get funding from the BC government.
