The City’s Spirit of BC Organizing Committee for Vernon’s January 26, 2010 Olympic Torch Celebration, has two events taking place this Saturday, October 17. 2009. Mike Nell, member of Canada’s 2006 Olympic Ski Jump team, will attend the Vernon Ski Swap from 12:30pm to 2:30pm at the Vernon Recreation Centre, 3310 – 37th Avenue, Vernon. Mike’s visit is being presented by the Gamestown 2010 initiative and the Ministry of Healthy Living and Sport. Mike will be talking about his Olympic experience and showing a video of his sport. Between 3pm and 5pm, Mike will also be on hand at Davison Orchards, 3111 Davison Rd., to visit the “Unofficial Training Tour” for Vernon’s 2010 Olympic Athletes. At 3:30 pm, MLA Vernon-Monashee Eric Foster and City of Vernon Mayor Wayne Lippert will join Mike to introduce the final torchbearer who will light the cauldron at the Vernon Olympic Torch Celebration on January 26, 2010. The public is invited to sign a banner wishing our Olympic athletes well in 2010.
