Update from the RCMP: 9:36 a.m.
On Friday, November 13, at approximately 5:55 pm, a collision on Highway 97 in Vernon claimed two lives. A Chevrolet car, traveling south on Highway 97 lost control on the 27th Street overpass. The car crossed the centerline, and was struck broadside by a northbound Ford pickup. Both occupants of the car, a 69-year-old Vernon woman, and a 10-year-old Enderby boy were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford pickup, a 24-year-old Vernon male was alone in his vehicle. Fortunately, he was wearing a seat belt, and his injuries are minor. Speed and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors in the collision. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
Police are asking any witnesses who have not yet come forward to contact Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171. The victim’s names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
