NORD Pay Reviewed

The amount regional politicians get paid will be reviewed in time for the next municipal elections in 2011. North Okanagan Regional District board vice chairman Wayne Lippert says the board has approved forming a citizens ad hock committee to look into remuneration for the five electoral area directors. "The board also gave staff direction to make sure there were no present day elected officials on there, and at least one of the committee be a former elected official so as to have some experience of what the job entails, and someone from the public at large as well. The board just wanted to ensure there is a good cross section of input." As part of the review, the committee will consider the director's duties, and compare their pay with other jurisdictions.

Lippert says the committee's recommendation will be considered by the board for implementation in 2011, before the next elections.

Why not let common sense prevail and not have any increases until the unemployment rate is below 3% and the economy is back on track.

Guess this would be too simple!
