The regional coroner has confirmed that he is reopening the case into the murder of Vernon resident Bill Abremenko. The 75-year-old victim was killed during a home invasion in 2004. Coroner Bruce Chamberlayne refused to discuss details until the family is notified and senior ministry officials are advised. Chamberlain could call an inquest into the case. Ambremenko's wife sued the federal government over the murder, committed by convicted murderer Eric Fish, who'd been on the lam from his halfway house in Vernon when the brutal slaying occurred.
