Oly Torch Run Comes With A Cost

City of Vernon taxpayers will be contributing ten thousand dollars to make sure there's adequate washrooms when the Olympic Torch Run stops here. Councillor Jack Gilroy says the funding wouldn't have been needed had the upgrades to Polson Park gone ahead sooner."All of a sudden we didn't get our washroom built in Polson Park, and I don't want to be the guy to explain to the mom's with the kids that have to go to the bathroom, that they have to go behind a tree, because the washrooms are closed."

The Torch Run comes through Vernon January 26th when a community celebration will be held in the park. Gilroy says the stop will be viewed by "billions" of people around the world. The councillor who is on the organizing committee for the local event, says the rest of the $69,000 to stage the event will come from the Vancouver Olympic organizers and Sport BC.
