A man who set fires to a number of Shuswap properties has been sentenced for arson. 24 year old Pierre Nault was given two years less a day in jail plus three years probation after pleading guilty to six charges in Kamloops. A rash of almost-simultaneous fires happened in late August in Celista, Blind Bay and Sorrento. One destroyed a Sorrento home valued at 2.7 million dollars. The Crown was seeking three to five years behind bars while the defence sought 18 months plus probation. In handing down his decision, Judge Dev Dley called the impact of the arsons "traumatic and profound."The court was told Nault set the fires as part of a delusional plan in which he hoped firefighters would save him from the police who he believed were trying to kill him.
