VICTORIA POLICE HAVE REMAINED WITHIN DEPARTMENTAL BUDGET FOR THE OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY BUT THE BOARD HAS MOTIONED TO SEND A LETTER AND INVOICE TO VANOC. VANOC DID MAKE IT CLEAR THAT POLICING COSTS FOR THE RELAY WOULD BE UP TO EACH JURISDICTION ACROSS CANADA BUT THE BOARD STILL WANTS SOME OF IT COVERED. THEY SAY SO FAR TALLIED COSTS PUT THEM AT A NET TOTAL OF $181,000, THAT DOESN'T INCLUDE SOME HELP FROM VANCOUVER RCMP--BUT ONCE THOSE COSTS ARE INCLUDED THE TOTAL WILL STILL BE LESS THAN $200,000.
