BC's Education minister will be getting a letter from the Vernon School Board, pointing out what the board calls the "extreme financial hardship" its facing. Board chairman Bill Turanski is urging minister Margaret MacDiarmid to restore funding grants and stop downloading costs onto the district.Facing a 2.5 million dollar shortfall this year, Turanski says they're long past the point where further cuts won't directly impact student learning. He adds it's getting difficult to provide the support needed for students to achieve education excellence. Just over one million dollars of the deficit is for contracted pay hikes for teachers which previously were covered by Victoria
