Lippert 2010

Mayor Wayne Lippert has a rosy outlook for Vernon in 2010. In a year-end interview with SUN-FM, Lippert pointed to the upcoming revitalization of Polson Park and the work being done on Spirit Square, as well as efforts to make the downtown core more 'people friendly'. The mayor also hinted at the possibility of some new companies moving into the North Okanagan. While he refused to give details, Lippert said they would bring ``good jobs.'' Lippert credited the city's economic development officer who's been in the job for about a year. He says there is interest from one business, which is headquartered in Asia, others across the country. He refused to be more specific. Lippert said Vernon has suffered from the economic downturn but not as badly as some communities.
