The chairman of the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee doesn’t believe his leadership was being questioned when he was challenged for the position. On Thursday, Vernon director Wayne Lippert was re-elected as chairman but Coldstream director Gyula Kiss was also nominated, prompting an election among the directors. “It doesn’t bother me. I don’t read anything into it,” said Lippert of not being acclaimed chairman. “Competition is good.” With a new term of the Greater Vernon committee under way, some key issues will dominate the agenda, including long-term planning and upgrades to Polson Park. Discussions will also revolve the City of Vernon’s attempt to withdraw from water distribution and whether a resolution can be found to maintain the function. According to Lippert, communication is key to addressing any concerns among the member jurisdictions. “We’ve got all of the parties talking on water and parks. We need to have those discussions,” he said. Kiss has been acclaimed as vice-chairman for 2010, a position that was previously held by Mike Macnabb, the director for BX-Silver Star.
