Politician Wants Timeline on New Fire Hall

The need for a new fire hall in the Bella Vista area, has been put on the back burner by city council. The elected reps decided to just receive a report on the issue from fire chief Jeff Carlisle. Councillor Jack Gilroy didn't oppose the motion but feels residents in that area should be given a general timeline of when it may happen. "And we'll put it away in a cupboard and then somebody will bring it out, (but) we have to give people a timeline. It's a huge expense to the taxpayer but it's to all the taxpayers of Vernon, it isn't just to the residents of the Landing." Carlisle estimates a new hall would cost up to 4 million dollars, plus an extra 800-thousand a year to operate. He says it could reduce the response time to fires in areas like The Rise and Adventure Bay from up to 20 minutes, down to nine. The chief's report came after a request for improved fire service from residents in Canadian Lakeview Estates.
