There is an online calculator that gives the average increase (or decrease) for both the residential and business property assessments. Below are the changes for the District of Vernon.
You can calculate your 2009 assessment change and compare it to the averages values below for the taxing jurisdiction you are located in.
- If your percentage is close to the average, then this year's assessment will not mean much to your tax bill. Any increase in your municipal taxes will be solely due to increased municipal spending, not the share of the tax burden that you personally carry.
- If your percentage is below the average, then your tax bill will be proportionately smaller than it was last year.
- And if your percentage is above the average, then your bill will be proportionately higher.Despite these calculations, of course, the final determinant of the size of your 2010 tax bill will be how much your municipal council decides to spend. Your assessment in relation to others only determines the proportion of the total tax burden you'll pay. That total is in your council's hands.

Don Quixote Note: My personal assessment on my house went up 5.6% when I compare it to my 2008 frozen assessment number (Actual 2007 value as at July 31, 2007). I will naturally hope that the taxes in the City of Vernon either come in at a 0% increase or hopefully even a tax decrease.
