Tolko Granted Logging Injunction

The BC Supreme Court has granted Tolko an injunction to stop blockades of their logging operations at Brown's Creek, west of Vernon, but with conditions. The court has ordered the two sides to get together in the next couple of weeks and come up with a way to let the Okanagan Indian Band do more archeological work before any logging is done. The dispute has been ongoing for over two years and escalated last fall with the blockade and then court action. Tolko's Okanagan Woodlands manager Mark Tamas says they've already contacted the band and are ready to meet at any time. Tolko says the Brown's Creek area is an important part of their timber supply for the Armstrong mill, which is on an extended holiday shutdown. It's thought the 175 workers may be back at work in another two weeks. There's been no comment as yet from the Okanagan Indian Band which had sought its own injunction to stop the logging.
