Mayor Gets Down to Business At Game

Written by Peter McIntyre Friday, 19 February 2010 12:32107.5 KISSFM:

News that school districts won't be able to sell their surplus properties didn't come as a surprise to Vernon's mayor. Wayne Lippert says the Education Ministry had been talking about that for a couple years. "It's just until they figure out what their programs are and what their needs are going to be for schools and properties. Once they have that determination then they will look at selling properties again." The city and NORD had been negotiating with School District 22 to buy the former West Vernon school site and turn it into green space. Meantime, the mayor says he managed to conduct some city business Wednesday while using two Olympic hockey tickets given to him by the BC Lottery Corporation. "It gave me a chance to talk to people and socialize, and in between periods I handed out some popular City of Vernon pins and a few business cards." Lippert says he also met with the CEO of BC Lotteries but didn't say what they discussed. The mayor was in Vancouver primarily to attend an economic development/tourism reception on Thursday.
