The Okanagan Indian Band vows to keep its blockade of the Browns Creek Watershed in place, despite word that Vernon-based Tolko Industries has won an enforcement order in BC Supreme Court which should allow logging to begin in the area. Band Chief Fabian Alexis says the blockade has been growing and members of the environmental group, Western Canada Wilderness Committee, have joined it. Meanwhile BC's Grand Chief Stuart Phillp says the matter has been handed over to the RCMP's conflict resolution team. He says the band has been assured the police will not seek ``blind enforcement.'' Phillip says band lawyers have already made an application in the courts to have the enforcement order overturned. He says that is expected to be heard by Madame Justice Brown on March 12th. The band has an outstanding territorial claim to Browns Creek land and insists logging would hurt its drinking water supply.
DON QUIXOTE VS. CITY HALL When an American gets mad, he says "where's my Gun". When a Canadian gets pissed off he says "Where is my pen, I'm going to send a letter to the EDITOR". When the EDITOR won't publish his letter he sets up his own BLOG page. When I received enough support to get a Council Seat the dogma of the establishment became : "Better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside pissing in." (Only time will tell !)
