Conditional Sale of Glass Plant Site

Lavington Glass PlantA year and a half after the Lavington Glass Plant shut down, there's a possible sale of the site. Realtor Don Kassa tells KISS FM, they have an accepted conditional offer on the property with a group of investors. "He (owner of the company) doesn't want his name released but he's been negotiating on this for at least eight months and it's a group from the Lower Mainland who are well funded and have the complete confidence of the owners of the glass plant." "(An accepted conditional offer) means we've got an agreed price and terms but he has an agreed length of time to satisfy all his conditions, so we're in conversation with the District of Coldstream. We've engaged a surveyor and some consultants to come up with an intelligent use of the property and doing further investigations (on the uses)." Kassa says the deal is scheduled to close in mid June.

The Vernon realtor says the potential new owner plans to work with Coldstream and consultants to produce a job creating plan for the site. The 91 acre property and buildings have a list value of 9.7 million dollars but Kassa is not disclosing what the agreed to price is. Stephanie Johnston, a spokesperson for the land owner Owens Illinois, said in an email, to her knowledge, a sale has not been completed, and she can't comment on anything that might be pending or in progress. 300 people were put out of work in the fall of 2008 when Owens Illinois closed the glass making plant, ending 39 years of operation.
