Council questioned

Published: March 16, 2010 7:00 PM Vernon Morning Star

What is this Vernon council and administration doing to the city taxpayer? Giving $850,000 of land to the regional library and receiving nothing from the local participants (Coldstream and Areas B and C) is irresponsible.

So once again, the city subsidizes Greater Vernon similar to the way it covers the entire annual deficit of the O’Keefe Ranch, subsidizes Greater Vernon water, pays way more than its fair share of the Sterile Insect Release program and pays an unreasonable share of the costs of regional district administration, etc. Perhaps it is because senior employees of the city live in Coldstream and our elected people are not capable of understanding what is fair and equitable!

We will now have a two-storey library, which the library administrator said was unacceptable. We have left the future of 25th Avenue improvements and extension in doubt and subject to land acquisition for it, at what major cost? The Ministry of Transportation assisted in the acquisition of the land in a major way back in the 1980s strictly for the 25th Avenue extension. Have they been consulted? No wonder Vernon is one of the highest taxed communities in B.C.

Then wait and see how much we will pay for the walkway and improvements on the old medical building site — maybe $3 million in the end.

I guess Barry will now be persona non grata at all Christmas functions of the City and NORD.

Thanks Barry for laying out the facts.

When will there be an end to deceiving the City taxpayer and when will the media expose what is going on?
