MLA Confirms $200 additional Home Owner Grant in 2011.

B.C. will benefit from the Olympics Eric Foster Vernon Morning Star Published: March 11, 2010 6:00 PM

Between now and March 2011, school districts across BC will receive $110 million in annual facilities grants. We are fulfilling our promise to provide an additional Northern and Rural Home Owner Grant of $200 starting in 2011.

An annual $775 and $1,045 for seniors towards property taxes will make housing more accessible, and families with children under 18 will be able to defer their property taxes.

Don Quixote Note: I have been trying to get confirmation of whether Vernon Residential Taxpayers will receive this additional $200 towards the home owners Grant in 2011. Below is the e-mail I received from a government department.

Question: Subject: would this apply to a City of Vernon property taxpayer ?? Or Kelowna etc. Tuesday, March 9, 2010 12:21 PM

Northern and Rural Area Homeowner Benefit:
As announced in 2009, a northern and rural homeowner benefit of up to $200 will be available for the 2011 and subsequent tax years. To be eligible for the benefit, you must meet the requirements for the basic and/or additional grant, and your home must be located in British Columbia, but outside the Capital Regional District (CRD), Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) and Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD). In early 2011, the ministry will provide further information on this benefit and details on how to apply. If you wish to receive such update(s), please subscribe to the Property Tax What’s New webpage and you will be notified by e-mail of all changes that relate to property taxes.

Little confused by Terminology "Northern and Rural"

Before I celebrate I want to make sure that a property taxpayer in Vernon is actually eligible for this increased exemption in 2011? (if all requirements are made for basic grant etc.)
I know we don't live in the ineligible areas of Capital Regional District (CRD), Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) and Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD). etc.

Thanks for advance for your answer.

Answer: March 10, 2010 12:08:21 PM PST Good afternoon,

Thank you for your email, which has been forwarded to my attention for a response.

As far as we are aware the Northern and Rural Area home owner benefit will be available for any homeowner that lives outside of the three regional districts listed, that would normally qualify for the basic and/or additional home owner grant. We have been advised that further information will be available in early 2011.
