Call For Core Review

Peter McIntyre Tuesday, 13 April 2010 16:22 107.5 KISSFM:
The financial watchdog on Vernon council would like to see the city conduct a core review this year. That would put city departments under the microscope to see how their operating. Councillor Bob Spiers says it would cost up to 80 thousand dollars, but would be beneficial. "What services are we providing that we could provide in a better manner, a more efficient manner, by say through contracting as opposed to staffing. We may find there's a lot of services we are providing that are no longer required"

Spiers says council will discuss the issue at an upcoming meeting but adds the best time to do the review is in the middle of the year so you have the information for the next budget. The city hasn't had a core review for a number of years. A recent service review in the city of Penticton cost 70-thousand, and showed the city's spending was on an unsustainable path.
