Public Has Say on Park Plan

Public input will be sought on future vehicle traffic in Polson Park

The public will have a say on future traffic through Polson Park. Councillor Jack Gilroy says as part of the upcoming upgrade, people will be given three options dealing with vehicle access including leaving it as is now. "The other two options are adding more parking, and stopping the vehicle traffic through the park, so it's all going to go to the public because that's Vernon's park, and the people are going to make the decision on that, not the politicians." City staff say closing the park to vehicles will make it safer for cyclists and pedestrians, and less congested by the water park and ponds. The public will be able to view long range plans for the park during Canada Day activities, and the city will also hold open houses to get input. The plan to add a new stage and grandstand facility in the park is still scheduled to go ahead in August.
