There’s been a shift behind the scenes at the North Okanagan Regional District. Maggie Knox has moved from general manager of corporate and electoral area services to a new position, special projects manager, until June 30, 2011. “Maggie is a valuable employee and I’m relying on her for a pile of work,” said Greg Betts, NORD administrator. Knox, who has been with NORD since November 2007, will primarily work outside of the office and attend meetings as needed. She will provide expertise and advice on administrative and legislative matters. “There is a backlog of bylaws we’re not getting to,” said Betts, adding that the change in positions was a mutual decision between Knox and NORD. When contacted, Knox would not get into specific details but confirmed that, “I will still be working for the regional district.” Further changes in the corporate and electoral area services function are expected in about a week. Betts said that if a general manager is hired, it could be on an interim basis while the long-term need for the position is evaluated. Knox’s new duties are part of a restructuring that has been occurring at the regional district for 18 months. “We’re looking at what our needs are,” said Betts, who says the structure could be influenced by possible changes to Greater Vernon’s water and parks and recreation functions. Betts said restructuring is also taking succession into account as both he and Knox are expected to retire within the next year.
