• The Ceres City Council, meeting at 7 p.m. today, is expected to lower to its public facility fee schedule based on decreased construction costs and declining land values -- some of the same factors under consideration in Modesto. As proposed by staff, the impact fees for a single-family home would drop from $25,298 to $20,520, almost a 19 percent drop.
• The Ceres council also is expected to approve new contracts with four employee groups, each of whom accepted a 10 percent reduction in their compensation through a variety of methods. The Ceres Fire Fighters Local 3636 agreed to forgo all holiday pay and uniform allowances and take a 2 percent reduction in salary. The Supervisor/Confidential Bargaining Unit will forgo pay for 12 holidays and have 13 unpaid furlough days. Ceres had to lay off employees for the current year but is hoping to avoid further layoffs for 2010-11 through employee concessions and other cuts.
