RCMP bust elaborate underground grow-op, arrest five

Sicamous RCMP on Tuesday arrested five people after discovering a 30,000-plant grow-op underneath a large shop. Police say the plants were accessed through a steel door in the floor that was raised with a hydraulic cylinder. "This steel door was part of an elaborate electrical system which was utilized to camouflage the actual entry," said Cpl Chris Newel. Police say the store above the grow-op was more than 7,000 sq. ft. The grow-op area contained fans, lights and air-conditioning units. There was an underground venting system that allowed warm air and the odour to exit well away from the shop area, reducing detection. Five people were arrested and another person turned herself into the Sicamous detachment. All face drug-related charges.
