The 3 tables below are the Police Resources in B.C. 2008 stats (Police Resources in British Columbia, 2008 ) for RCMP Municipal Forces over 15,000 population, RCMP Municipal Forces between 5000 and 15000 population and for all other Independent Municipal Forces.
This report is the latest posting. Important Notes:
- Police strength represents a jurisdiction’s authorized police strength as of December 31, 2008. (This is not the actual billed strength for the year)
- Total costs refer to actual costs as reported by each municipality. For municipalities policed by the RCMP, total costs include the municipality’s share of RCMP contract costs (i.e., either 70% or 90% depending on population) plus those costs borne 100% by the municipality which are over and above the contract costs, for items such as support staff and accommodation. Total costs do not include costs for bylaw enforcement or victim services programs, capital expenditures (such as major construction projects), or revenues. There is variation between jurisdictions with respect to the operational costs in their policing budgets and therefore, comparisons should be made with caution.
