The Vernon Council confirmed by a 5-2 vote that 3 years were the preferred Term of Office for a municipal Council. A letter will be sent to Ben Stewart, the minister of community and rural development who is charge of implementing the 31 recommendations of the Local Govt. Elections Task Force in upcoming Spring Legislation. (Lee & Okeefe opposed)This motion came after the original motion to have a Recall Provision in the legislation if 4 year terms were implemented was defeated 5-2 with Nicol and Spiers on the losing side of the vote.

Your Local Council has now made their votes and positions known and this input will be registered with the Province. I hope that more Councils decide to vote on these two matters and send their results directly to the Minister.
