A forensic autopsy is being performed on a Vernon homicide victim today in Kamloops to determine cause of death and confirm the man's identity. RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk says it's a complex case involving a 31 year old male suspect who had no previous criminal record. "The suspect in the case remains in custody and is expected to make a court appearance (Tuesday) morning in relation to this homicide investigation. Charges are to be determined by Crown counsel."
Molendyk would not go into details but says the circumstances of the homicide make it a complex case. "At this point they are not wishing to go into the investigation around that. It's a very complex case and it has tied up police resources all weekend." The victim's name and age will be released once the autopsy is completed. He says the victim was not a tenant of the Villacare Apartments on 33rd Avenue (across from City Hall) where the body was found last Thursday in a second floor unit after police got a call from someone from the suspect's family. Molendyk also says it's not believed to be drug related. The suspect was arrested without incident in Vernon Thursday evening, but not at the apartment. When asked by the media if the homicide may have occurred earlier --perhaps hours earlier-- than when the report came in, Molendyk said "That would be fair to say."
