Greg Betts remains at the helm of the North Okanagan Regional District for another nine months, but the search for his successor is underway. The regional board has launched a process to replace Betts once he retires next year. “His contract expires May 16 so we want to begin the search early,” said chairman Herman Halvorson. Halvorson says that by starting the search process now, he hopes the regional district can go through a smooth transition. “We need to determine what kind of chief administrative officer we need with the changing structure of the regional district,” he said. The search process will be led by Patrick Nicol, board vice-chairman.

“There will be a workshop and the directors will examine what the best candidate’s qualities are,” said Nicol. Nicol believes that by beginning the search process now, stability will be provided to the employees at the regional district. “Staff needs to know there’s a positive direction we’re heading in,” he said. Betts was named administrator at NORD in 2009 and he was the general manager of electoral area services for three years before that. He was also administrator for Coldstream for 15 years, and has more than 30 years experience in local government administration.
