VANCOUVER - When it comes to charging the new HST, even the Vancouver Police Department is a bit confused. It seems the department added the harmonized sales tax to items such as police record checks and fingerprint services by mistake. More than 2,500 people were incorrectly charged an extra $3.00 to $8.00 depending on which service they were provided.
Those who want their money back will have to mail their full name, address and phone number along with the receipt, or the date they went to the police department, to 312 Main Street in Vancouver. The extra money was charged between July 1 and Aug. 19. Police say they "sincerely apologize" for any inconvenience they caused to those using the services.
