Demolition No Wrecking Ball

More green space is coming to downtown Vernon. Crews are expected to start tearing down the old medical building on 31st Street in the downtown today. City of Vernon building services manager Ian Currie says it won't be like the old days when a wrecking ball could take it down in a day or two. He says the process is much more careful, to avoid dust and debris. It's expected to take up to four weeks. Hazardous material in the building has already been removed. He says this is to avoid material spilling out onto the roadway or adjacent property. Currie says the site will look as flat as a parking lot once the work is done. He says work to green it up will likely take place next year.
