On Monday September 20th at about 6:40PM an officer from Vernon detachment issued a 45-year old Coldstream resident a 3-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition for driving while over 50 mgs %. Under the new legislation, his vehicle was impounded for 3 days, in addition to a $200 penalty. This driver was the first driver charged under the new legislation in the Vernon/North Okanagan Detachment area.
On Tuesday, September 21st at about 2:40 PM, a member of the RCMP's Integrated Road Safety Unit stopped a vehicle on Hwy #6 for a traffic infraction. The operator of this vehicle was same man, now operating another vehicle less than 24 hours later, while under the 3-day prohibition he had been issued the day before. The second vehicle he was operating was a company vehicle it has been impounded for 7 days. The driver will be also be appearing in court at a later date, on charges of driving while prohibited. No alcohol was involved in this second incident.
