Early Morning House Fire All 5 are safe

All five residents got out safely. That's the word from Vernon Fire Rescue on an early morning house fire on Middleton Mountain above Kal Lake. The home in the 900 block of Mt. Begbie Drive was fully involved when crews arrived just after 5:30 this morning. The fire department says they've knocked down the fire and are in the mop-up stage.

A fire in Vernon's Middleton Mountain area this morning started in a basement bedroom. The home in the 900 block of Mount Begbie Drive sustained extensive damage, but all five occupants, including two renters on the lower floor, and some pets, got out safely. They were alerted to the 5:30 blaze by smoke alarms and a pet licking someone's face. Vernon deputy fire chief Lawrie Skolrood tells KISS FM, they're still trying to pin point the cause. "It's certainly not suspicious, but we can't rule out electrical, we can't rule out a number of things." Skolrood says the house was fully engulfed with flames coming through the roof when crews arrived. He says there's no damage figure as yet. "There's a considerable amount of damage to one third of the building along with a lot of smoke and heat damage throughout the rest of it." The occupants which included a man,woman and their son on the upper floor, and an adult man and woman in the basement, will be staying with relatives or in hotels, until repairs are made.

Fire crews were on the scene of a house fire on Middleton Mountain for a couple of hours this morning. The Vernon Fire Rescue call out was at 5:30 to a home in the 923 Mt. Begbie Drive with the house already fully engulfed as they arrived. The good news, all 5 occupants got out safely The bad news is there was extensive damage. The cause is under investigation.
