Fire Merger Could Happen

Attention: open in a new window.

The chief of the Okanagan Landing fire department says he'd be willing to discuss merging the city's two volunteer associations. Ed Forslund says the idea--which was raised by Vernon chief Jeff Carlisle this week--has been talked about in the past. Forslund however, says he was disappointed to hear about it through the media, rather than from Carlisle himself. "Things have been going along quite smoothly with the two departments in the last while and this came as a sudden surprise to us." Forslund says he'd have to know the details and impacts to each department before he could say if he's for... or against it. "I can't say we're opposed to it or in favour of it. It's something that would have to looked into in detail before any decisions were made." Chief Carlisle says it could save taxpayers 100-thousand dollars a year.
