Kamloops City - Phone Scammer Uses RCMP Name

Contrary to what one fraud suspect is telling people, the RCMP does not engage in any kind of telephone solicitation for the purpose of seeking donations.
On Monday September 27, 2010 the Kamloops RCMP received a report involving telephone solicitation naming the RCMP as the recipient. Investigation has determined an unknown male  suspect was successful in obtaining credit card details from a local male believing he was contributing  to RCMP programs. After supplying the credit card information to the caller, the victim called the local  detachment and learned he had been defrauded. Fortunately the victim was able to cancel his credit card before the actual charge had been applied.  The RCMP would like to remind all residents that the RCMP does not engage in any form of telephone solicitation for the purpose of seeking any type of donation. Any person receiving this type of call is  asked to not provide any personal information as you may be exposing yourself to fraud or identity theft.
