Colin Mayes blasts New Democrats who change votes
Okanagan Shuswap MP Colin Mayes says the Conservatives are not the losers in the fight over the long gun registry. The Tory-backed plan to scrap it was defeated in a squeaker House of Commons vote on Wednesday afternoon. Mayes blasts ``the losers'' who didn't vote the way they said they would, asking why some NDP MPs changed their minds and ended up supporting the registry. ``It's not something Canadians would want us to go to an election on but you can be sure at the next election, those people who didn't represent their constituents will be held accountable,'' Mayes says. He insists the registry is too expensive. ``There's a finite amount of money and when we have a drain of money going to the long gun registry it just doesn't make sense. We could be using that money to make Canadians safer.'' The squeaker vote -- 153-to-151 -- was supported by the Liberals, Bloc Quebecois and a number of New Democrats.
