Solicitor General To Review City of Vernon Cost Report

De Jong meets Vernon delegation at UBCM convention

A City of Vernon report on the hefty cost of running an integrated RCMP detachment has made it into the hands of BC's Solicitor General. Mayor Wayne Lippert says it was handed to Mike de Jong at a meeting during the Union of BC Municipalities convention which is underway in Whistler. ``He said he would look at it and that he was interested in that (integrated) model and trying to work out something different.'' Lippert says the problem has been that RCMP detachments, integrated or not, have been dealt with in the same way. He's hoping the province now sees the big financial difference in the way the two operate. The mayor also says there had been a different tone in meetings with cabinet ministers attending this year's UBCM AGM. He says they had been refreshingly honest because they had little money to give away. The Vernon delegation met with nine cabinet ministers, including Premier Gordon Campbell.
