Trustees hike salary

North Okanagan-Shuswap school trustees are getting a raise. A majority of the board decided Tuesday to approve a two per cent increase in remuneration based on the consumer price index. Trustee Teresa Hebert supported the move and said that remuneration didn’t change for years. “If we don’t keep up with costs then it will eliminate some people’s ability to run.” The salary for chairperson goes from $11,811 to $12,047 while it increases from $10,393 to $10,951 for the vice-chairman. Trustees will see their remuneration climb from $9,353 to $9,855. This decision will mean a net increase of $1,803 to the district. The board has also passed a motion that trustees receive payment for travel expenses when attending meetings as part of their duties.Secretary-treasurer Bruce Hunt said the motion is passed every year as a matter of public transparency. Trustee Bob Fowler voted against the motion.
