The City of Penticton and CUPE 608, the union representing the majority of city employees met Thursday and have agreed that the issues surrounding the future of the Community Centre can only be dealt with through collective bargaining. Both parties have agreed they will begin collective bargaining as soon as the schedules of their representatives permit. While the city would like to be able to continue the operation of the Community Centre with city employees, the timeline the city is facing if the facility is to reopen in 2011, requires that the process of exploring alternative models for opening the facility must begin. The city will therefore be seeking expressions of interest from potential private sector operators of the facility.
