Community Consultation on new Vernon Branch September 29, 2010

The ORL is quickly moving forward with the creation of a new library branch in downtown Vernon to better serve communities in the North Okanagan. With a goal to break ground in November, CEI Architecture will host a design charette over a three-day period from October 4-6 to gather input from all stakeholders on the facility’s requirements. This process will conclude with a community consultation open to the public. “A charette is an intensive and open design exercise where the architect and all engineering consultants are brought together as a group in a condensed timeframe to create an inclusive conceptual vision for the project,” explained CEI Director Tim McLennan. “CEI has used this process before with great success.”

Following two days of intensive consultation with specialists and program staff, the community consultation is to be held between 4 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 6 at the Schubert Centre. This is a drop-in event, free to all members of the public. A draft of the concept design will be shown, and there will be opportunities for everyone to review the concept, ask questions and add their thoughts. The ORL encourages all members of the public to join in this important process; it's a great opportunity to provide input into the new building.

This "news story" must be straight from an ORL press release:
"a new library branch in downtown Vernon to better serve communities in the North Okanagan"...

Charette or no charette, how does One Big Library located in one "big" city better serve ANY OTHER communities in the North Okanagan?
