Diesel spill near creek contained

A diesel fuel spill in Vernon threatened to contaminate Vernon Creek Monday night. Between 50 and 100 litres of diesel fuel was spilled at 8 p.m. October 25, while a fuel truck was filling the pumps at 5001 Anderson Way. "The driver took immediate action with diking material to make sure it didn't go anywhere," says Vernon Fire Department Deputy Chief Lawrie Skolrood. He says emergency crews were worried the spill threatened to spill into storm sewers and Vernon Creek. "They had some concerns, but it turned out real well. There was no leakage into the creek." The spill was successfully contained to the pavement until a vacuum truck arrived to clean it up. The Ministry of Environment was informed of the incident.

First and foremost, Diesel and Gas do not mix with water, but float on top of same. Therefore any fear of same mixing and polluting the water is bogus.

Contamination is negligbile and 100 litres or 25 gallons of diesel would evaporate in the sunlight.
