Drivers Stopped By New Laws

Gord MolendykSeveral Vernon drivers will be pedestrians for the next few months after feeling the impact of BC's new safe driving laws.  RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk (pictured) says five motorists--who are all repeat offenders--- had their vehicles impounded for 30 days, and their licenses taken away for three months for alcohol related incidents this past weekend.  "Under this new program, you get flagged every time you get suspended for 24 hours, and up it goes. It goes three days, seven and then the 30 days."  Molendyk says officers also laid four impaired charges last week, and issued one three day suspension. He says the new rules which took effect a month ago, are there for a reason. "It's about saving lives. We do not want to be investigating fatal or very serious motor vehicle accidents."
