Harper government seeking new auditor general

Mark Kennedy, Postmedia News October 1, 2010
OTTAWA — The Harper government is looking for a new auditor general and isn't shy about telling prospective candidates about the job requirements. The next watchdog of government spending must have "integrity, tact, and sound judgment." He or she must be a "team player" and "possess a constructive approach." And there's a real need to anticipate the "implications" of an auditor general's actions. And something else: the salary — $322,900 — isn't all that bad.

All these points are contained in a job notice seeking applicants that was published by the government on Friday. The individual selected will replace current auditor general Sheila Fraser, whose 10-year term expires May 31, 2011. Her successor will be chosen by the Conservative cabinet but, as an independent officer of Parliament, will report to the House of Commons.(more)
