Library Vision Unveiled

Peter McIntyre Thursday, 07 October 2010 09:35 107.5 KISSFM Open, inviting,  and welcoming to the community.  Those will be the key aspects to the design of Vernon's new downtown library.  Architect Tim McLennan from the Kelowna firm cei architecture says input from meetings with up to 30 stakeholders, and a public open house Wednesday, will be used in the design.  He tells KISS FM, "It's a fast tracked project which basically means construction will start while we're still designing. The site has a large clay component to the soil so there's some work that has to be done to get everything ready for the foundation."  McLennan says libraries have changed over time from being a place to keep books, to a social hub for the community.  The 12.6 million dollar facility should be done in the spring of 2012.  Construction is expected to start in November on a site sold to the Okanagan Regional Library for $10 by the city at 2808 30th Avenue across from the new Tolko building.
