Million Dollar Games Grant

Province to provide $1million for BC Winter Games in 2012Greater Vernon will be getting provincial help to put on the BC Winter Games in 2012.  Vernon Monashee MLA Eric Foster says Premier Campbell has promised one million dollars to communities hosting the event, to build sporting and cultural legacies.  Foster tells KISS FM, "It's similar to the legacy funds that came out before the Olympics, for live sites, arts and culture sites, and sporting venues."  Foster says Vernon will be one of the first recipients of the funding.  He expects more details from Victoria, soon.  "The province will lay out the criteria, and the city (host committee) will decide what they want to do." A 16 member board of directors was formed in July to organize the games which will bring 2,300 participants in 15 sports to the area February 23-26, 2012. It will require 2,500 volunteers.
