A new petition has already generated dozens of signatures for getting lights installed at BX Ranch Park. Dog owner Monique Lamoureux is spearheading the campaign, saying lights would make it safer for owners to walk their dogs at night. "It is our busiest dog park. We've had the petition up for about 4 days and we already have 52 signatures, and we're just using Facebook at this point. I have a bunch of paper petitions going out to all the pet stores and vet clinics." She says there isn't a safe place to walk dogs at night, other than on the streets which she says isn't safe. "The neighbor at BX Ranch Park has said (the lights) are not a problem as long as animals aren't getting into his chickens and stuff." The petition will be delivered to the regional district in hopes of getting up to four lights in the park, possibly costing around ten thousand dollars. You can access the petition at

Will there be a coin operated light system.
Why should the general public have to pay for special interest groups who walk their dogs on public land so they can poop.
Have they ever heard of taking a flash light.
I trust the users will pay for the lights and the power cost. If you live in the country you go without street lights and now you want ligts for dog owners-we have other more important financial needs.Any one will sign a petition-it means nothing
I think this person lives in Coldsteam. Perhaps because Coldstream has so little in the way of street lights, she wants Vernon to pay the majority of the cost by getting them via Vernon parks and Rec.
