Speeders, Drinkers Lose Vehicles

Attention: open in a new window.
Drive too fast and you will lose your vehicle for seven days, and perhaps longer.  That's the message some North Okanagan drivers haven't gotten yet under BC's new rules that took effect three weeks ago. Vernon RCMP Sgt. Dave Evans says there were two speed related impoundments last week including a driver going 156 in a 90 km-h zone near Falkland, and another one in Vernon.  "At 2 o' clock in the morning on 32nd Street at 16th Avenue in Vernon, a vehicle was clocked at 94 km-h in a 50 k zone and that vehicle was also impounded for seven day period."  Motorists caught going 40 km-h or more over the posted limit have their autos impounded for seven days on the first offence and for 30 days if it happens again within two years. Mounties also handed out one impaired driving charge, two-24 hour suspensions, and two-three day driving bans (blood alcohol reading of .05 to .08) last week for motorists in the new warning range for impairment.
